Lib Dems deliver on Post Offices where Labour failed

November 6, 2010 9:30 PM

The investment of more than £1.3 billion of funding over the next four years to maintain and modernise the Post Office announced by Business Secretary Vince Cable shows that the Lib Dems in Government are delivering for local people where Labour failed.

This investment averages out at over £330m a year - more than double the subsidy paid to the Post Office in the past two years under Labour who pushed through a programme of forced Post Office closures.

Councillor Margaret Rowley, who campaigned to keep local Post Offices open when threatened by both Labour and Conservative Governments, said " Liberal Democrats understand the importance of local Post Offices to local communities, particularly in rural areas. This package will help improve customer services, extend opening hours and reduce queues. At long last, thanks to Liberal Democrat influence, we are seeing the Post Office put on a sound and sustainable footing."
