The Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) allocated a massive 24,500 houses to be built in South Worcestershire by 2026. Wychavon was to take 9,100 plus an unspecified number of Worcester City's allocation of 10,500. The Decentralisation and Localism Bill proposes to abolish the RSS, but this doesn't mean there will be no development.
Developers are already coming forward with proposals for large numbers of houses. The current Local Plan will be out of date next year, and there has been no agreement on how many houses are actually needed.
Opposition Leader Cllr Margaret Rowley said
" The Tory Executive Board has put the Local Plan revision on the back burner until after the District Council elections in May. This is not good enough.
"The Liberal Democrat Group has put the numbers question on the agenda for this month's Council meeting on Tuesday 14th December to try to get an answer as to how many houses are actually needed.
"We will then press for a new Local Development Plan to be produced as soon as possible."
